Re: Devoted / Quirky Things Us Pet Fans Do...

You spot on I did first use the 'Complete Organist' volumes. Never heard that name for many years  But I usually played by ear most of the time. Interesting how we have both played the organ to the public and later we discuss it on an AWP forum. Ha, I bet no one else on this forum gives a toss...

Re: Devoted / Quirky Things Us Pet Fans Do...

Richard, I too used to play the organ back in the 80s. Started on a Hammond then my dad upgraded me to a Farfisa. Same thing, played to the old uns, weddings that sort of thing. They loved it - that's the sound they were brought up on. No Coldplay or Jay-Z back in their day. From the songs you list,...

Re: Series 3 & 4

Here's why I think Series 3 & 4 are flawed: AWP was about 7 down-on-their-luck blokes who had a magical chemistry with each other. They were all different but all contributed. The language, the banter, the facial expressions, were superb. They could have made 10 more episodes just set in the hut or ...

Re: Wayne's conquests

I'd be too scared of Norma's husband coming home from the oil rig unexpectedly and catching us in bed together. I bet he's a right bruiser.

Canny breakfast though, and I love that bread. And she'd throw out my empties.

Re: Series 2 Weird parts

Beeston back then was great for a pub crawl if you like your backstreet boozers. At least a dozen if I remember, all easily walkable. You had to keep your mouth shut in some places if you didn't have the Notts accent as the Uni was next door and some of the punters didn't take kindly to students. Bu...

Re: Series 2 Weird parts

Cheers Richard. I never know what to make of average pint price surveys as there's so much regional variation. Lived in the east midlands (Nottingham) for three years 88-91 and incidentally drank in the 'Bel and Dragon' several times without knowing it was the 'Bel and Dragon'. I think Arthur was ch...

Re: Series 2 Weird parts

Not really weird, but I always thought 87 pence for bitter was too high for 1985. I recall it being about 75p in my local (South Yorkshire) in the late 80's and that was after a couple years of high inflation. I could be wrong - that time was just a drunken haze. The Barley Mow is a nice little booz...

Re: Films...

I'm with you, Hedley.

I can live off of my DVD collection. AWP, Minder, Rising Damp, Professionals, Sweeney, On the Buses, Royle Family. No need or reason to watch modern TV. Except for Family Guy - that's all my DVR is used for anymore.

Re: Series 2 Timeline

Lee, you're right it would've been better to post this on Fictional Dates. Don't think anyone there commented about simultaneous Wolves arrival and timescale of S2E7 though. Care to compile a Series 2 ep-by-ep timeline?

Series 2 Timeline

I always thought it quite a coincidence (hold on Gary, it is a fictional tv show) that all but Oz happened to arrive at Barry's on the same day. Even Moxey, whose letter had to be forwarded twice before it reached him - surely Royal Mail aren't that efficient? And Dennis had suggested waiting til Tu...

Re: Recycled lines/gags

My favourite is when Oz says of brothels: "it's all legal and above board here!" in both S1E1 and S3E5.

Kevin Whately's accent

Just heard Kevin Whately narrating a programme about King's Cross. Why did he think ridding himself of his pleasant geordie accent would be good for his career? Was it? I wish he'd just talk like Neville in everything he does. Much easier on the ear. What do you think?
