AWP as therapy.
Just been to see one of my closest mates, who I have known for around 30 years, but unfortunately he has suffered a stroke at the age of 45. We grew up with Pet, being around 16 at the time of broadcast and he knows it as well as me. His speech is currently such that he is difficult to understand du...

Hello
I've already jumped in with the postings before the introduction. Was a member of old forum, only been inspired to join here whilst contemplating a retrospective viewing.

Re: Fictional Dates
Sorry, but you've set me off on one now! In Home Thoughts From Abroad, Barry brings in the Sunday papers, and Oz announces Lads won 3-1 away. Hammers drew 1-1 with Coventry and Pool won Moxey 3-0 A check of soccer base in the 1982/3 season shows that Newcastle never won any game away from home 3-1 (...

Re: Fictional Dates
Seems that football wasn't Clement and La Frenais strong point. Spotted another one. In s1 ep 3, Oz states that Rod is 6 years old. In series 2, he says "he was born the year Newcastle got relegated" and that he is "10 or 11" A bit of digging shows that Newcastle were relegated in May 1978, so neith...

Re: Neville's wages in germany
In episode 3, they say they raise £230 from the auction, and his three days wages brought it "nearly 400". So by my reckoning that's around 250-300 per week. Which would be canny money in 1982 I reckon.

Re: Fictional Dates
Think you've got to accept some poetic licence here lads. Looks like you've pinned series 1 down to a 12 month timespan, August -August, but as you say the script says they were there for 6 months. Just the same as you have to accept 2 Newcastle fans going to a Sunderland game, cos it just ain't gon...

Re: Private Lives
Right cheers, I've searched for blimmer on the forum, but no meaningful matches.
And the slow tour by explanation makes sense, though Oz pronounces it as Toby. I'm from the NE and have never heard anyone use it, except me and my mates following AWP.

Re: Bad acting? What bad acting?
Can't believe no-one has yet mentioned Douglas, the new tenant of Oz's flat. So wooden and monotonous it's unreal.

Re: Private Lives
I have a question about Private Lives that has bugged me for years. When Wayne and Barry go into the couple's hotel room and Wayne starts to become irate he says "I come up here for an innocent liaison, and there's some geezer flashing the readies, I mean what is he, a blimmer or summink?" What on e...
