I love 'Now And Then' photos. Seeing the big changes - not just buildings but the cars. I make 'now and then' photos of where I live near Cramlington using the National Archives and my own snaps. So I'll certainly be looking forward to seeing more of these. :D

Vickies Hairdressers Bigg Market, Newcastle

Post by Auf Wiedersehen, Pet » Mon Dec 24, 2012 2:38 pm

This is a great picture, dated from the late 80's early 90's I think.

Dennis picking up Vickie-

This is the building, no more-

You can just see the stone door opening, on the building that has not been knocked down, and behind Dennis in the screen cap.

The first now and then pic is superb. In all these kind of pics i prefer hardly any change if any at all.

A lot of changes around the Tyne area. When you see Dennis meet Marjorie you realise how many there has been. The flour mill is now an art gallery, the Millenium Bridge and the Sage to name but 3!

Where is that first shot taken from? Looks like it's behind the Baltic somewhere but can't put my finger on it

If I remember correctly I took that picture in Beresford Gardens in Byker. It does look like its on the gateshead side but thats the curve of the Tyne.

Cannot begin to tell yas how much Im enjoying this ! My Great Granda was William Sobers, born Newcastle 1844; Civil Parish: Gateshead. He married a lass from Wales and their first child, son William, according to record was killed when a teacher hit him on the head with a book. It fractured his skull !!! His 7th [?] child was Florence, born 1878 and emigrated to New Zealand and so on to me. So my connection to Newcastle [distant roots] for me is a fascination indeed. Hence, my love of AWP and anything Geordie is ever-so much helped by all of your snaps and postings. This is one happy punter, keep em coming Petstas !!!
Cheers from Christchurch, New Zealand [Shakey Town !]

Never going to happen but dreams are free and afterall, its what dreams reveal innit !

Aye, they love it so much they travelled as far as they possibly could to get away from it!
