Home from home -Trip to ASDA

Post by windsheer » Thu Feb 13, 2014 7:48 pm

I am 34 now so aufpet brings incredible nostalgic memories for me.
The trip to asda is exactly how i remember supermarkets to be; ring pull cans etc.

The episode really brings out that boys dream of camping down and roughing it with beer and banta. In reality it would be no fun, the episode makes a great job of bringing a sense of 'homeliness' to the viewers.

Series 2 is without a shadow of doubt the best of the lot!!

I recall visiting the ASDA used for filming (West Bridgford) on special shopping trips, particularly at Christmas. Brings memories back for me too, particularly the Trent Bitter cans, as I am not too far from Burton-on-Trent, and seeing the Ferry Bridge on the can was great.

Some great episodes from series 2, but 'Another Country' wins it for me.

Jeez, how difficult this is to pick a favourite episode, yes Home from home is definately one of the best but I just love any of the first few from series one the most.

Have to agree with you there that this is a great episode. You've hit the nail on the head with your comment on homeliness of it. I can recall supermarkets of the 80s as well and love seeing the items and adverts from that time as well. And yes, the boy's own adventure of a camping in the big room with the real fire and then a good fry up in the morning. A very human episode
