Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
Here's a thought. When Den and Nev get off the tram and their shirts are different, perhaps that is not a mistake. Maybe it is in fact the next day. I thought was harsh that Grunwald would say they were so late, considering how far they had come. Wayne could have taken ages to arrive himself as he was making his own way.

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
They couldn't have been too far away when they broke down because Dusseldorf is marked on the motorway sign (which looks suspiciously closer to the car when Nev get's out than it does when Wayne goes past).

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
Blimey there's not a lot in this episode that's been missed eh?
I can only add a couple of things...
At the scenes outside the bar where they meet Herr Pfister, both arriving and leaving there are quite a few people in the background watching. Some people even stop what they're doing and turn round to watch.
Also when they arrive at the site Nev has one of those foam mattresses rolled up under his rucksack and he's carrying a pair of wellies. I might be wrong but I dont think we ever see either of those again. And if they were planning to stay in a hostel, why did he bring a foam mattress anyway?

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
Hang on a tick, I'm not taking this lying down.
Brenda sets the alarm for 6am. From this at a guess
0630 Nev picked up
0700 Arrive at South Shields Ferry Terminal (I presume left from here)
0800 Sail. From what I can find out the sailing takes 16hrs.
0000 Arrive Hook of Holland.
Obviously that doesn't add up.

I think you're reet bonnie lad,it doesn't add up.
Also,if Wayne arrived on time, presumably he would have started work in the morning the next day (not as soon as he arrived).
Because Wayne is at work when they turn up,it must be the next day.
The change of shirts suggests they stayed overnight somewhere.

Are we pulling apart 'Who won the War, Anyway?' this coming week?Auf Wiedersehen, Pet wrote:From Monday 15th of July, we are going to dig deep, and pull this episode apart.
Instead of watching the episode as you would normally, look in the background, follow the extras, look for mistakes, try and date the filming of the episode, notice anything out of place, anything new. Basically anything that you haven't noticed before.

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
Why aye HerrPfister. We're ganna rip that episode's lungs oot.

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
It must be the same day as they are literally a few hundred yards from the Dusseldorf sign on the autobahn......
But saying that, it would have been beneficial to get the car to the site?
I know the engine was knackered but surely a few hundred quid would have sorted it out....

Nah. It's a new engine that.

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
The bottom of the sump wouldn't drop off anyway without being noticed.
Would have made a right racket.

The clock in Oz's Zephyr when they roll off the ferry says it's 3.30.

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
Here's my two penn'orth on episode one: what puzzles me is how the Geordie lads got from the motorway to the site? One minute they're stranded on the hard shoulder, the next they're getting off a tram, but what happened in between? Did they hitchhike, or hike across the fields (hence Nev's wellies)?
Also, does it really take 16 hours from South Shields to the Hook of Holland?
And while I'm at it, I'll go for "choked".

From now on I'm sticking to a worse type of bird.
