Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
I've got some: Why did Wayne (who was carrying quite a bit of gear - about three bags) looked a bit huffed when they didn't offer him a lift? How could Wayne not see they already had three suitcases in that boot and spirit levels? Also, what's the laws about leaving your broken-down car on a German motorway and did they let the authorities know about it? Wouldn't they trace the English registration? Get a fine? I really don't know.

Which would mean that it was 4.30 in Holland as the are 1 hour ahead of usAlreetPal wrote:Breaking Away wrote:Hang on a tick, I'm not taking this lying down.
Brenda sets the alarm for 6am. From this at a guess
0630 Nev picked up
0700 Arrive at South Shields Ferry Terminal (I presume left from here)
0800 Sail. From what I can find out the sailing takes 16hrs.
0000 Arrive Hook of Holland.
Obviously that doesn't add up.
The clock in Oz's Zephyr when they roll off the ferry says it's 3.30.

If they had pushed it into the canal, would the clock still have worked underwater ?

They didn't sail from Shields, cos Nev wrote his first postcard at Darlington.

If they did sail from Harwick I may have sailed on the same boat. In 1979 I went Hook van Holland to Harwick.II'll have look on my photos.

I've looked at the photos but can't see the name of the boat in any of them. I'll post them tomorrow. Some are quite faded. A couple of the photos you see good similarities with the filming. I must ask my dad if he knows where the negatives are in case there are more photos.Breaking Away wrote:If they did sail from Harwick I may have sailed on the same boat. Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
I'd say it is deffo Harwich, as the boat from Newcastle goes to Ijmuiden (for Amsterdam) and it sails overnight.
Newcastle to Harwich in that Zephyr must have taken all day. So I reckon their boat was overnight too, this makes more sense as they then took a few hours to get over to the site via Nijemegen yet people are still working.

Re: If I Were A Carpenter Episode Dissection
I think we should have another bash at this!
Now that we have 'Howards Behind the Scenes stuff', and Howard has a bit of time, instead of being stuck behind a computer screen, couple a cans a lager and lime, yer know....
Who is up for it?
