Lovejoy.

Post by Auf Wiedersehen, Pet » Mon Jan 13, 2014 9:12 pm

Whilst a trip to our wonderful capital this weekend, I nipped into a Red Cross Charity shop next to Buck House. Whilst browsing I came across Lovejoy Series 1-6 on DVD. Now this is quite expensive and a bit hard to get hold of now, so I grabbed S1, thinking back I should have really got the lot, but it would have been £50, and after spending a lot already, I thought I'd best not!

I have never really watched this, so looking forward to settling down one evening soon to have a 'glen'....

Well done!

Series 1 is closer to the books than 2-6, its very gritty and realistic, Lovejoy is often seen to be utterly broke, surviving on his wits and free food from Eric's dad whereas in later series he seems to be constantly well fed and watered and just about able to pay the bills as and when they come in.

I'd go back and get the rest if I were you, I've yet to see them anywhere secondhand for £8.33 a series...

I used to watch this as a kid with all the family and after we would be sent to bed, as it was 9pm, but its an entertaining viewing each time, some of the characters change now and then with series numbers progressing but its still ok.. you will like it Mr Barratt

That is a total bargain!

Drama showed the final episode today, which saw everyone move on. But the door was very much left open for future episodes, just a pity they never did any!

Have a look at the guy playing Lady Jane's new man in the final episode I'd swear that is Dick Clement in a cameo.

Yes, but weirdly you can get the full set for 40 pund, but the single series sets go for a few quid on Ebay.

I've got through half of Series 1, and its bloody brilliant!
Easy to watch but not stupid, great writing and great acting from the main cast.

I'm not sure if anyone heard Nick Frost on Chris Evans the other morning, Ian McShane is in his new movie, Cuban Fury. Nick asked Ian what he was doing one weekend during filming....'Just off to see Mom and Dad....' Nick's reply...'WHAT?!...How old are you?!....' Nick said he must have been about 17 when he first played Lovejoy!

He probably meant visit their graves. Ian's dad died just over 12 months ago, he was 92. He was a retired footballer, having played for Man Utd and was their talent scout for many years. He was credited with bringing Wes Brown to their academy. You'll notice in later episodes that Lovejoy often drinks his coffee from a Man Utd mug.

He would have been still alive as Cuban Fury was filmed 2 years ago...

Nice bit of history, cheers pet.
