The Fat Ox and the Wheatsheaf

Post by Hallwood » Mon May 02, 2016 10:57 pm

Does anyone know if The Fat Ox and the Wheatsheaf are/were real pubs in Newcastle? I've been watching Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads, and they both get a mention, as they do in Auf Pet. Or were they just pub names that Dick and Ian made up and used in both series?

The Fat Ox is in Whitley Bay (Ian is from Monkseaton which is just down the road). The Wheatsheaf is a very common name for pubs in the North East. I think they were just generic North East sounding pub names.
