Rod's real age

Post by Dennis Patterson » Thu Feb 20, 2014 8:31 pm

Here's another one that's probably been covered before but I'm still trying to get my head round.

In series one episode three when all the lads are having a reet pop at Oz regarding his marriage and not sending money home for Marjorie and Rodney.
Bomber asks "how old is he (Rod)"?

Oz replies "five or six"

to which Neville asks "don't you know"?

"he's six, he's six" Oz retorts

Roll on to series two Episode eight where Oz meets Rod from school.

Oz asks "doesn't ya mam come and meet ye"?

Rod replies "I'm ten dad"

Now forgive me if my maths is wrong here but when series two starts and it goes to Neville going to the building site looking for work the caption underneath says "two years later".

Now when I went to school (six plus two equalled eight) or if you put it the other way (ten minus two equalled eight).

So I put it to you gentlemen, was Rodney six or eight in the first series or was he eight or ten in the second series?

Over to you.

"He was born the year Newcastle got relegated", according to Oz. And that was 1978.

Rod would of known his age when asked. If he says he's 10, then he is 10. Oz probably got his age wrong in Germany. There is a scene of Rod in series one. I heard somewhere that they didn't want Oz to look like a horrible person if the viewers saw poor little young Rod - so they cut the scene out. How old does he look in that cut scene?

It happens a lot in soaps that a child's age is altered slightly to fit a storyline, and I think that is what has happened in AufPet.
