"Your Dad shagged more birds than Mick Jagger, man"

Post by Hedley Irwin » Fri Mar 07, 2014 10:37 pm

Wayne's success with women is legendary. The thread title comes from Oz's comment to Wyman, Barry was eager to learn from Wayne in Germany because of Wayne's sexual conquests, and both Dennis and Bomber commented on the number of women he had.

But from what the viewers saw, he didn't actually have a huge amount of luck.

Sure, he had a some successes - Christa (although only after a bit of a false start, and the marriage didn't last long), and Carol, for example, plus a one night stand with Chrissie. But these aside, he doesn't seem to have been too successful. Or at least no more successful than say Oz, or Dennis.

Ingrid turned down the chance to sleep with him, and seemed to prefer Neville
Wayne admitted that Oz had had more luck with Uli than he had with Heidi
Dagmar told him not to live in hope
Linda and Pippa turned him away and made him pay for their motel room
Gina McKee's character abandoned him in the car park so she could listen to Oz sing
He got nowhere with the Norwegian girls on the beach
Vicki played along with his flirting, but actually went with Oz

Some failures of course weren't his fault: I'm thinking of the two girls at the bar during the classic "would you like to come back to our hut" moment, and the two Swedish air hostesses.

So, was he as successful as he made out, or was most of it down to bravado and exaggeration?

There was the girl behind the bar when the rest of the lads were going to the brothel (I'm not paying for it...)

And the girl at the post office.

I'm sure that bird behind the bar was the same bird who played Heidi, the one at the Tivoli where Oz met Uli. Take a gander and see if yeez lot agree.

I don't think it's any secret the girl is the same actress... check out the credits - 'Oona Kirsch' plays Heidi in both story lines. Strange though how several episodes have passed between ep 1 'If I Were A Carpenter' and Ep 11 'The Lovers' yet Wayne doesn't mention their earlier relationship...

Wayne rolled with the punches, if one bird gave him the slip he would try double hard to win her round, like Christa.

The 'ballet dancer' (Ofelia) / 'rough arse builder' (Oz) relationship was Jimmy Nails idea. If memory serves me right he thought the 'Beauty and the Beast' relationship would be an interesting concept...
