The Music - Themes
We have never really discussed Music on the Forum and how big a part of it is with Pet.
I am attaching a Poll with this Thread, but it's not really about how one is better than the other. What I really like for the first 2 series is how much the Music compliments the show, and how Joe Fagin got it just 'Spot On' with the music and lyrics.
I remember someone saying a while back in how they thought the 'New Series' kind of fell flat because it didn't have the 'Music' connection. Series 3 has what I think is a classic theme, the Mark Knopfler 'Wye Aye Man'. Now it might not be everyones cup of 'Rosie Lee', but I think its a great song which compliments Series 3 perfectly. I never really understood why the lyrics were so based on Series 1, but who cares really?
Anyway, the point, the point.....
Which song do you like?
I personally would go for 'Back With The Boys Again'. I have been listening to all Series 1, 2 and 3 tunes in the Van, but I believe 'BWTBA' is the greatest song of all of them.
It compliments the show, and the lyrics are spot on, but it doesn't mean the others are worse.
Series 4 and The Special were really let down by not having a great Theme Tune I believe.
Note: I have enabled the option where you can change your mind, but you can only vote for 1!

Re: The Music - Themes
I think the series 1 tracks defines 'Pet' very well, but even with those facts i actually like series 2 tracks better..

Re: The Music - Themes
It's a tricky one as they are all really good. Even 'the seven again' and 'tonight's the night' are really catchy songs

I was thinking of adding in those but I thought I'd go just for the Themes in this thread.Bomber wrote:It's a tricky one as they are all really good. Even 'the seven again' and 'tonight's the night' are really catchy songs
I love 'The Seven Again'. It's almost like a none viewer would get the gist of the show from the 4 Series 2 songs listed above. A story can be told by listening to them in order, great appeal.

Re: The Music - Themes
I'm not as keen on Why Aye Man because I felt it was a departure from the show's "DNA". I like the scene-setting of Breaking Away as I feel it captures the desperate situation of an unemployed building worker heading off abroad hoping for "a better way".
Another thing that I thought worked well with series 1 and 2, but completely lost with the later shows was the way the incidental music accompanied a character throughout the show. For example, Oz's incidental music was always a bit twangy and the harmonica music followed Barry around.

"That's Livin Alright" because the end credits on AUF1 are brilliant.Especially the "Who's Lotte?" one with Nev/Oz/Dennis.
And the Barry "They said I looked like a vagrant..."
