Recycled lines/gags

Post by Hedley Irwin » Thu Jan 17, 2013 8:11 pm

In S2E3 "A Law for the Rich" Ally's first comment on seeing the Lads is "They look like a bunch of mercenaries". When Oz shows Grainger the pic of the Lads in S3E1 Grainger replies "They look like mercenaries".

The conversation between the two coppers as they headed up to Newcastle to see Hallwood "Wait until you've spent the night in Newcastle. You'll realise you're middle class" was recycled in S3E3 by Teddy Platt's mother when she confronted Micky Startup "He was in rotten Middlesbrough. He said to me I thought we were working class Mam, but now that I've seen this place I realise that we're middle class"

Any others?

I have always noticed the Ally/Grainger one, but not the other one, until now....

I'm pretty sure Fletch uses a similar line about Glasgow to try to rile Mr McKay in Porridge too

Yes they recycle quite a few lines.
Barry saying Law of Sod, was also used in Likely Lads the film
Some great lines that deserve to be recycled

You tend to find lines recycled in long running TV shows or shows written by the same people.

Oz mentions the words "legal advisers" at least three times in Series 2.

Twist again (like we did last summer), was used by Oz and Bomb in series 1 and 2

Not that's it a gag, but the term 'pro tem' seems to come up a few times in series 1 (Certainly Den and Wayne both say it). Not really heard that term used up here in Newcastle

Good point, agabloodydoo. I've never heard pro tem anywhere other than auf pet.

In addition to Dennis and Wayne, Bomber says it when Helmut refuses a drink - something about relationships being strained pro tem, and in Series 2 Barry says it in reply to Wayne saying that Barry's appearance indicating that conciliatory talks with Hazel had broken down

"Pro tem or p.t., is a Latin phrase which best translates to "for the time being" in English."

The only other time I've heard 'pro tem' is in 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads'. I remember hearing it at least twice on that. The writers must like that word.
