Dennis' Football Career

Post by Auf Wiedersehen, Pet » Mon Apr 24, 2017 12:42 pm

In The Alien Dennis is tellin Barry and Neville about playing Football at school, and says when you leave school you let it all go. Neville comments 'you played soccer for a while Den......cracking player, centre back, never let anyone through.....'

If Neville is 10 years younger than Den, how would he know? He'd be 6/7 if Den was 16/17.....

Is Den supposed to be 35/36 in Series 1. He comes across as older then that?

Perhaps they went to the same school. The yearly journals would have all that information and Nev may have been interested in those old boys who did well at football. Maybees some even went on to play for Newcastle ?

More to the point, what level was Neville playing at, that they ran a bus to away games? Or was he just talking about going to watch Newcastle as a supporter?

Aye. Nev says how he used to love away games , coming back on the bus, crates of booze, games of three card brag and having a sing song. I'm assuming he's not talking about a service bus.

In one of the early episodes Dennis shows his football shooting skill when he kicks an old builders bucket on his way back to the hut. I've tried it myself, the trick is to get the top of the foot in line with the side of the bucket so the impact is spread over the whole of the foot, but still you can't get much leverage to kick it far. If you just kick it with your toe, it can hurt a bit!
