Re: HOW did you all arrive at this site?
I had been visiting the old site on and off and then latched on to this one. I have never been a joiner of these sort of things but I got a good vibe from reading the forum. Decent and fun chat .It seems a place for free spirits, rebelling against a system that wants to grind us down. That's why I'm here.

Saw an old episode on the TV the other night and got me thinking about getting hold of some dvd's. Whilst searching Auf Wiedersehen Pet on google came across this site.

Been obsessed with AWP 1/2 ever since I watched 1 in 1984 as a 13yr old on a B/W telly with one of those twisty dial thingys. I actually went on a two month school exchange to Germany in Feb 84,Stuttgart not Dusseldorf though.

I had been a 'lurker' for ages, but then saw the 'something you've learned from AWP' thread and thought my contribution about the merits of selling the Erasmus were funny. Funny to me, anyway! Great site, just great.

Maybe's in a VERY VERY small way with some AWP fans, not many though.. my time was at the convention, all people recognising me from the vids up Newcastle..Breaking Away wrote:He's world famous is our Timterryleather wrote:I watched Corsa Tim's videos and realised I wasn't alone.

I would love to do some official vids with the cast.. bloody long shot though..

Re: HOW did you all arrive at this site?
I remember seeing some location vids a few years ago on youtube and always fancied doing it, thought it would be a laugh. (I realised this sounds geeky as anything to non AWP fans, but hey)
So i went on to have a look again and found Tims videos. Brilliant stuff. Seeing the locations and listening to his commentary. Thanks for doing that btw.
I'm just glad there are other out there that feel the same about the program and the characters.

I just replied on your Newbies topic as to what you found.. and yes its good to see fans with that amount of affection for the old program.. we do exist, just that this site now brings us all together for it..

Re: HOW did you all arrive at this site?
Well, how did I arrive at this site, then...
Sometime late last year (probably in November) I came upon a repeat of the old "disco" shows (music program). It is really a "cult" program in Germany. Everybody used to watch that show in the old days (it aired from 1971 to 1982, if I remember it correctly).
So on that evening I was just zapping around with the remote control of the telly... And I happened upon that special "disco" show. I thought I had seen all of them back in those days. But this show I think I had never seen before. Otherwise I would certainly have remembered it.
Anyway, it started out with a band I had never heard of before: Heavy Metal Kids! The name of the song was "Delirious". The show first aired on October 15, 1977! I was seven years old back then! And I am sure that I must have missed this show back then.
So I just watched that and was pretty amazed by this act (wouldn't call it performance, because I am sure it was not played live...). And I was wondering what might have happened to that singer who seemed to be on drugs all the time...
I thought to myself, well, that guy is probably long dead by now... So when the show was over, I went over to look the group up on my computer. Checked "wikipedia" and had to learn that I was right. The singer's name was Gary Holton (never had heard of him!) and he died (not surprisingly) from a drugs overdose in 1985! I was only 15 years old back then and never knew that this guy ever existed... Can you imagine that?
Then I read some more about Gary and that he played a role in that series I had never heard of: Auf Wiedersehen Pet... So I found a couple of episodes from the series on youtube. But later I also looked that series up on wikipedia too. At the bottom of the page are a few links to other sites regarding AWP, that's how I found out about the "official AWP fan site" or whatever it is called. I clicked on the link and that was what took me here...
So now I am here...
Cheers, mates
