Phoenix Nights Likes Auf Pet

Post by Si » Tue Jun 04, 2013 9:02 pm

May have been mentioned before. It seems Peter Kay is a bit of an Auf Pet fan.

If you listen to the commentaries Kay says how some of Paddy's lines were based on Bomber's first person dialogue. When Paddy says "Paddy likes to play the field, Paddy does." That was a direct homage to the great man himself. So says the commentary.

And again, when Tim Healy appears, Kay says about him being in Auf Pet.

Just a little couple of nuggets that are out there :)

Aye, its in the magazine about Peter being an Auf Pet fan.
I must say, Phoenix Nights is holding the cult status for me, just like Pet, with not being shown 300 million times a year like OFAH! Peter has done really well, to keep it protected, and not cash in just for the sake of making money. I can watch PN now, and laugh my bollocks off....

Yes he kept it off channels that repeat comedy to protect it.
Paddy's a bit of a player like's to play the field Paddy does. Proper Bomber speak.
When i first got the dvd's i watched them straight away with commentary, its full of laughs.

:D

I enjoyed the commentary on PN too. Paddy was saying how surreal it was to get Tim Healy in a headlock.

One of my favourite lines from the commentary is when Peter Kay says (and don't quote me on the city)

"I saw Paul McCartney in a shoe shop in Blackpool"
and Paddy says "Name Dropper"
Peter says "haha what"
"No im on about Blackpool" Paddy say.

It's funnier on the dvd :D

Commentary is the way to go! Everytime i pick up a comdey series that i've seen already i hit the commentary button!

Craig Cash's Early Doors also had great commentary on each episode.

Also. That Peter Kay thing, is another belter. with Peter, Paddy and Craig Cash on the commentary :D

Agreed! I was so disappointed with the lack of commentaries on all Auf Pet DVD's

Too bloody True Ally, Hopefully if they ever release a new 30 plus year boxset we might get a few more commentary episodes.
Im sure Chris Fairbank would do a few, and Tim Healy

That would be great; although if I remember (its been a while) that the odd episodes with commentaries on the original series weren't very good as Ian and Dick could hardly remember anything!

So, what's everyone's favourite 'closing act'?

Mine is the juggler who, having fumbled everything he's attempted to juggle, proceeds to get flaming torches out of his chest... :o

Ping-Pong Balls, anyone? (Pippa?)
