Maybe whoever said "6 months" could really have meant 7 or 8 months. In which case Barry referring to the lads being there in January does fit.

Now, why Sunderland were playing a friendly match part way through the season, God only knows. What is more unforgivable is that two paid-up members of the Toon Army would go to the match.

I always thought Oz's reply to Dennis's "What you got a Sunderland sticker on the back for?" was total bollocks. Most fans would remove the bumper entirely rather than drive around professing love for their sworn enemy. The Zephyr was not exactly a collector's piece.

Yes, I still can't figure out why he didn't dumb the whole car rather than keep it with that sticker on it.

I think thats one reason Oz promotes the toon so often in series 3 onwards. Wearing a nufc hat, shagging graingers PA with her in a nufc top. Sort of 'redeems himself at the end'.

Think you've got to accept some poetic licence here lads. Looks like you've pinned series 1 down to a 12 month timespan, August -August, but as you say the script says they were there for 6 months.

Just the same as you have to accept 2 Newcastle fans going to a Sunderland game, cos it just ain't gonna happen, no matter what the circumstances.

The only other thing I would add is that Aintree used to hold more than one meeting a year

Seems that football wasn't Clement and La Frenais strong point. Spotted another one.

In s1 ep 3, Oz states that Rod is 6 years old.

In series 2, he says "he was born the year Newcastle got relegated" and that he is "10 or 11"

A bit of digging shows that Newcastle were relegated in May 1978, so neither age fits with the timeline.

Sorry, but you've set me off on one now!

In Home Thoughts From Abroad, Barry brings in the Sunday papers, and Oz announces

Lads won 3-1 away.
Hammers drew 1-1 with Coventry and
Pool won Moxey 3-0

A check of soccer base in the 1982/3 season shows that Newcastle never won any game away from home 3-1 ( nor did they in the preceding season)

In those two seasons West Ham and Coventry did not play a 1-1 draw in any of their fixtures.

No doubt more excessively anal observations will follow as I continue my latest retrospective on series 1.

Aye, I posted similar on another thread a while back. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=101&p=667#p667

Moxey is reading a paper with he headline "England flop in Belfast", which I reckon puts it at May 1983

think he was being sarcastic rather than saying it was August at the time of the conversation.

alright how about this one:

31:43 S01:E11

Dennis asks Nev (About him moving with his girl) sayins: [is that after the royal wedding]?

That certainly is Charlie and Lady Di, so that makes it just prior to 29th of July 1981

perhaps from two weeks to one months before the event.

How's that?
