So, there was always discussion this was a real club, we now have the answer from David Anthony Birtwistle who was in Expose, I asked him and he kindly told me;
“The producer of the show knew Roger Bamford (one of the producers of AWP) and recommended us to him for the part of the band in the Kit Kat club (I think it was called that) in Düsseldorf. We auditioned at Elstree Studios, I remember meeting Gary Holton there who liked us and think helped secure us the part. Roger Bamford said “yes” and could we learn an ABBA song and sing it in German and be available for filming in three weeks. As luck would have it we were on tour the following week in Germany for two weeks where we had a translation of Super Trooper done and learned it in time for filming when we arrived back in England.
We filmed our part in a mock up club at Elstree Studios Borehamwood over two days. We did six songs in total which were edited into episode 1 and episode 2.....”
So there we have it, mystery solved. What a set though eh?!
