Ally Fraser
I can't pick one of the lads over another, it has to be the most perfect ensemble casting ever, but as supporting characters go it has to be Ally Fraser.
Exuding cold-eyed menace coupled with Scottish charm, Bill Paterson played the part to perfection.
I wouldn't want to call him a mate, mind, or even gan for a beer with him (Ally, not Bill) but his performance resonates even wathcing the episodes back today - a borderline psycho hiding behind a thin veneer of respectablilty.

Re: Ally Fraser
Would probably agree that Mr Fraser is my favourite side character. I love every scene with which he's involved, especially when he's agitated with the lads. Infact (although I know it's coming and say the line along with Ally) I always roar uncontrollably when he snaps "I mean feed them first!" after having informed Dennis of the gathering at his place in Darras Hall.
And another thing - what about Ally standing on the little foot stool whilst delivering his speech regarding the airplane tickets for Spain? Absolute comedy. Trying to pacify the lads, and spouting nonsense about supporting the British worker...
I might'a knaa'n it! Economy measured around is it!

Re: Ally Fraser
Fraser was good as far as baddies' are concerned, almost like an average business man trying to do things right, until his bad side kicks in and he thinks he can get things done easier..

Re: Ally Fraser
Fraser is absolute comedy. The epitome of a local gangster type who wants to be famous. He's a performer, an actor and would like to think that he's a cut above the average Joe. But what it all boils down to is that he's a divorced criminal who runs a small casino and fruit machine business, and is going out with a young Geordie lass who used to paint nails.
Geordie a scrubbers don't leave me!
Love it when Oz is on the rampage looking for Ally after the bust up with Vikki.
Dennis explains the situation and Oz has already forgotten about retribution.

Re: Ally Fraser
Without a doubt a lovable villain!
In the UK he seems a decent bloke, wants what he wants and will go the extra length to get it...(NO erection jokes, I've heard them all
)
Anyway, when he gets to Spain and things don't go his way and he is not in control....well, the Marbella Club will be needing a new mirror.

Re: Ally Fraser
Has anyone read Bill Patterson's autobiography?
Did he have out to say about his time in Auf Pet?

Having looked at the Amazon reviews, it seems to be more anecdotes from his childhood and adolescence rather than an overview of his life. I wouldn't expect much, if any, 'Pet' insight. You never know though and, at 1p (plus P&P), it's hardly breaking the bank.
