He's always complaining about something and more often than not he puts a negative spin on things, I just can't imagine the rest of the lads who were always up for a laugh putting up with his misery for so long, in real life he probably would have got told to piss off. I've always liked Oz's description of him in 'If I Were A Carpenter', "Soon better be a clown than a misery like you, you're like death warmed up you man.".

Outside of the lads I'd say Vera, she was more miserable than wor Nev. She seemed quite selfish and hated the fact that Den had found some happiness with Dagmar, so she got him back and then gave him the elbow by Series 2, so poor Den was left with nowt.

I think Howard Radcliffe was a snobby git as well, I think he looked down his nose at the lads, and I think he took great pleasure in telling Ally about the lads going on strike so I would have liked the lads to get some sort of retribution against Howard like they did with Arthur.

I've always hated that copper from 'A Law for the Rich' in Series 2, not the older copper but the younger one, he especially irritates me in the scene where they're questioning Hallwood.
Agree with Neville right whining person as moxey says in series 2 he always wanted to be somewhere else
In dusseldorf he wanted to be home
In Derbyshire he wanted to be home
In Spain as above

I'm surprised he found the courage to propose to Brenda mind Brenda probably proposed to him !!!!

Nev was born in 58 and was 20 at the time I think so 78 or 79 is right.

Pye wrote:Neville is one of my favourites though, I'm surprised some people don't like him. He's just a boy, but is genuinely decent and sincere. He really shows his worth in situations like the ones with Colin and Hedley. Even stands up to McGowan.
That's what I like about Neville, too. The way he stood up to Magowan was really impressive, I think. None of the other lads dared to do that... They were all just yellow-bellied chickens...

But still, Neville is not one of my favourites! He is too dependent on his oh-so lovely Brenda... Which is actually a good thing, because he is true to her! But I don't really like his attitude because without her he seems like he's absolutely lost... It's like: nooo, I can't go out with me mates, because it's just no fun without Brenda!

This is a bit ridiculous, really.

I never really cared for Bomber, but lately I found that I like him better and better. For one reason, he is true to his family. And I like that.

Right now, I must say that Dennis is meanwhile my least favourite character. He always seems to know everything. He is like a "father figure" to all of the others... But he really is quite pathetic!

I just cannot understand it. He has a wife already, and he's always messing around with that Dagmar, who seems to be Grunwald's secretary...

Dennis is often lost in self-pity, and tries to wash it down with a few schnapps or so... It's obvious that he doesn't even know how lucky he is. He's got a wife and kids and he should really be happy about that! So what does he do that all for?

It's a shame, really...

Neville is also the one that tells Howard that they are backing Dennis and remaining on strike until their demands are met!

Regards Dennis, he was gettin a divorce man ! Its only at the end that Vera, for reasons known only to her, wants him back. So he gives up Dagmar and ends up with nothing. OUCH !!!

It's never stated why Vera did such an abrupt U-turn, but I've always assumed Alan must have ditched her & she went back to Den rather than be on her own with 2 kids.

That's what I think anyway.

Well she must have something about her, Sean bean married her after all !
Crap brummie accent though, far too exaggerated. Barry had it spot on, I can still not get used to his accent in real life.

Wouldn't change any of the characters .Can't believe either Dagmar or Vera would ever look twice at miserable Dennis though...
