Re: Series 4
Can't believe S4 finished 10 years ago! Just around the time my son was born. It was, to my mind, the weakest of the 4 series. I still enjoyed it though but not as much as s3 as that had the added bonus of being the return of the lads after 15 years or so. 3 and 4 are both similar to me, good but not as good ad 1-2. Slightly too broad in the comedy compared to the first 2.

Re: Series 4
In light of it being 10 years since the fourth series first aired, I've been watching it again. I also can't believe it's been that long ago. Then again, what doesn't help is that I don't hold it or the specials as high as I do with the first three series; they just don't feel like AufPet episodes for me.
GET BAAAAAAAACK!

I've amended my opinion of this. It's now above S3 IMO.

Re: Series 4
I like Series Four. Was good to watch. The spy story was pretty cool. You saw a different side to Neville and Kevin Whately played a great part for a rookie spy! What I didn't like was how Oz left Ofelia like he did. I guess he could've contacted that dude they got the bath off who could've told the brother to get lost but remember, he was in a foreign country and I don't think Oz would've taken the chance. I would like to have seen the prima ballerina and the bricklayer being pen pals and communicating somehow - would've been a nicer way than just saying "Goodbye" (but what was in that letter....I think it summed it all up...)
I have always wondered about them getting together and marrying, but that's something that we can only speculate (contact the writers or Jimmy if ya wanna chat...lol). Who knows, it might have worked out or not. However, the brother had every intention to think how he did (Oz did have a temper - even though by Series Three and Four, he had calmed down a bit and didn't get needled as quick, he did get itchy toes to travel around and where he was living wasn't that great - but then again, with the money he got from the US deal, he could've bought a nicer house still close to the city) and he was scared that his sister was going to be in a bad deal if she got with this Geordie bricklayer who was a little older than her. It was pretty cruel what he did to Barry but it just shows the desperation in some people to ensure values don't get tangled up (you could say Cuba does still have some old 'Red' values) with foreign stuff and that she was a celebrity too!
Whatever you may think, it was good. I wished there was more episodes but cost for actors, etc. would've been a lot to do with it. However, Happy Days!!

True Tracy and I think Oz wanted to smash him so badly but as I said, he was in a foreign country and if he wasn't careful, he might have joined Barry!!

Re: Series 4
Besides as Jimmy Nail says in his song 'Ain't No Doubt' - "if you love somebody, set them free"...I guess that's what he was doing to Ofelia...

Happy Days!!

Re: Series 4
I am a big fan of 3 and 4, I tend to think of series 1 and 2 ,which I watched until the tapes wore out! now as being in black and white . When I have an AWP session it usually starts in Middlesbrough and then moves to Havana.
I hate that scene where the 3 lads are heading to Germany and Dennis produces that photograph....Its worse than the scene in the restaurant with Bombers letter and Moxies revelation.

Re: Series 4
I've just plowed through S4 these past few days, and still stacks up as one of my favourites. The scenes between the lads are some of the finest, they feel close and affectionate of each other, it gives you a nice sense of the lads being mates and holding it together.
We still get flack for sharing S4 and it gets plenty of stick, but I really like it. The only thing I don't like is it's too short, it could have done with some more episodes to see the job done.
I also feel that this series is letting the lads get back into the swing of being the lads again, and then sadly within a few months with the Special it's all over. I have a lot of time and affection for Series 4.

Re: Series 4
At present I am deeply into Series 4.
Hand on heart I have never disliked any series, and always loved each one for what they are.
Series 4 for me is very emotional indeed, and maybe that puts people off, it's maybe too soft?
I love the scenes of the lads on the drink, and Neville being a spy, although many felt it was 'over the top' some of those scenes are brilliant. I go through stages of being into a Series, and I do get into Series 4 very often watching it almost every night, even my kids have been watching it with me.
Because we have that choice in life now of being able to watch what you want when you want, I still go back to this series more than any other. We used to and still do get a bit of flack on Social Media about 'how it crap' 'I don't watch this one etc' and people are open to share their opinions, but this year after sharing many clips of this series online, the negativity is dwindling and people are coming to love this series.
I just wish the BBC had released an album of music for S3/4/5 as it would have been a cracking album.

Re: Series 4
It's a shame the fourth series has such a bad rep. I think if many people gave it a second go they would realise how strong it is. A lot of fans think it's too much of a departure from 'real Pet' but to me it's always been a return to form after the mis-fire that was series three.
Yeah Nev being a spy is totally over the top, but it adds unparelleled drama (I've never been 'tense' over Aufpet plots until Nev got kidnapped and then confronted during the 'intervention' - genuine edge of the seat stuff). Plus if we're talking 'jump the shark' moments, the show had already gone off the tracks during much of series three - at least in four they got out of the UK and into a 'hut' as soon as they could. There's also a certain style about the way it's shot - it just feels more Pet than series three.

Re: Series 4
One piece of incidental music is very derivative of this Morricone score. It's all over the first episode especially during the Nevile asking Heather for help scenes.

Alan, do you have that link again? I tried to fix it to make it work in here but it's giving an error.
