Series 2
Series 2, will and always will be my favourite out of the 5.
There is something about the Thornley episodes, that is just bloody magic. The writing is exceptional, and gives us....The Ghost, Arthur Pringle, and Mrs Chatterley to name just a few. I can see how a bunch of building workers back in the mid 80's would have been looked like outcasts to the middle to upper class village as is portrayed in these episodes.
I always seem to watch from 'Return of the Seven Part One' up to scoop, and never watch it any further. The Spanish episodes are excellent too, but the UK ones I think, are some of the greatest TV Britain has ever made.

Re: Series 2
Its things like this that make me wonder about the third series if Gary hadnt have died.. Would they have topped it again?? Maybe... But yes the Thornely Episodes are all Classic's because of Toffs, Pringle's nature and everything around them in Derbyshire that existed in that time..

Re: Series 2
Agreed, ive said it before but i think the average pet viewers always watch series 1, but us Pet nuts seem to favour series 2, especially the Thornley Manor Episodes.,
Multi layered storylines, the acting. perfect

Re: Series 2
I just think the Thornley episodes are perfect, and you can't ask for anything more.
The other reason we might all love it, is because it portrays 'England as a postcard' and with scenes of small villages we all think England should be like, me included....

Re: Series 2
Everything about series 2 hold its special-ness even more when you live not far from the places.. because you dont see the roads/place's/buildings as what they are in real life.. ill always see Beesthorpe Hall as Thornely Manor.. and the Windmill as the Barley Mow.. same with other locations.. apart from the ones still to find.. but the main ones as stated.

Re: Series 2
Series two for me as well. The whole continuing storyline worked so much better. Also likes of Aurthur Pringle, Ally Fraser and Kenny Ames were superb as part of the supporting cast
Really think Bill Paterson was exceptional as Ally Fraser. Thought you could tell he was a cut above the rest at the time when it came to acting imo
Also think Series 3 is very underrated by many

Certainly agree that the pre spain episodes are my favourite from all series.
Great to be "back with the boys again"

Re: Series 2
The bit where the lads are watching the tv in the manor and pringle
Appears on screen... Their reaction is pure genius, a moment to watch
Over and over and just study everyone's reaction.
Series 2 is absolute quality... You always worry about another series when
It follows a masterpiece.... As far as series 2 goes it let nobody down

Re: Series 2
Second series is my favourite for sure. Being able to relate to the places they're visiting in the first 6 or 7 episodes makes it seem real.
The places in Newcastle, how it was in the 80s. The amazing banter in the high rise in Gateshead, drinks in the Portland and mentions of Darras Hall.
The amazing class war with tiger Pringle and the banter between 7 blokes recreating the squalor of the German hut at Thornley manor. And the building tension of the Spanish episodes where Kenny Aimes comes into play, Ally is losing the plot and Dennis is fighting back.
Brilliant series. As funny as the first in terms of scene to scene humour but a more rounded storyline with the characters being fully developed and better side characters to thicken the plot.

Re: Series 2
As much as I love Series 1, Series 2 edges it for me. Seeing the lads come back together after two years is brilliant. I love how they used different locations throughout the series, starting off in Wolverhampton, then onto Derbyshire, Newcastle and eventually Marbella. We still had the laughs from Series 1 but the sub plots for each character were great.
Oz in Series 1 came across as someone who couldn't give a toss about his family yet in 'Marjorie Doesn't Live Here Anymore' he shown that he does really care for his son, Dennis is of course struggling with the pressures of working for a notorious gangster, relying on the drink and knowing that he left Dagmar for a second chance with Vera only to be left with nothing. Neville's struggling with trying to support his family with no work about. In Series 1 Barry is seen as this bumbling idiot when it comes to women yet in Series 2 he has a fiancée. Wayne announces that he's married although it turns out he hasn't changed and is still the same jack the lad womaniser that we knew from Dusseldorf. Moxey's continuous attempts at trying to evade the law are quite interesting in the way that he was willing to escape from prison to see his mates again, and Bomber seems happy just to be working again and having a laugh with his mates and keeping out the way of his wife.
The introductions of other characters was good, such as Kenny Ames, who I thought was quite a loveable rogue, we also had the return of Brenda, we were introduced to Norma, Christine, Vicki, Hallwood, Howard Radcliffe, Hazel, Big Baz (although he didn't say much) and Harry Blackburn. But the master stroke for me was the inclusions of Ally Fraser and Arthur Pringle. Bill Paterson played Ally to perfection and Arthur Pringle was simply a classic character in my opinion, his scenes with the lads were just brilliant. We also had some decent minor characters, Trev, Carol, The Chatterleys, The Gamekeeper, Sir James, The Ghost, Martin Cooper, Stool Pigeon, Terry Leather, Sandro and The Oxlades.
Some memorable locations, Barry's house, Norma's house, The service station, Thornley Manor, The Barley Mow, The Cross Keys, Ally's Office, Darras Hall, The Portland, Cannibals, Harry's Boozer, Neville's house, Ally's Villa.
In Series 2 most of my favourite scenes take place and a lot of my favourite dialogue took place. Seeing the lads back together and the great bond they share is just perfect television. Also the two best TV show theme tunes happen in Series 2, 'Get it Right' and ' Back With the Boys Again' are just perfect.
So taking all of this into account, Series 2 is my favourite.

Re: Series 2
Loved series two so much. The only small caveat is the Spanish scenes where Gary is obviously not there are not quite as good as the rest of the series. Such a shame he died.

Re: Series 2
Just finished series 2 again and the Spanish episodes were a chore I must admit, been a while since I watched every one and they are all over the place with the obvious rewrites and too many episodes dragging on IMO.
As great as the earlier episodes are the Spanish ones spoil it for me and I don't think I'll be watching again for a while.what does everybody else think?
Hey ho back to series 1 for me.

Re: Series 2
Aye, fair enough but not me. Despite all the rewrites etc, I still love the story and sillyness of it all. Guess Im one of the lucky ones that loves the whole of Series two as much as Series one. S1 we get Dagmar in her bikini. S2, Brenda. Minus the hair ! Canna get much better than that !!!
