Learnt a new language?

Re: Learnt a new language?
I will always admire and respect anyone who can speak another language because I find it extremely difficult. I don't understand how they can remember many new sounds a week later. I say 'sounds' because it's not a word to me. I've done the 'library books with cassette' and failed. When I did French at school, I was bottom in the class. Actually, my English is well below average on here. My grammar is terrible and I know many on here have probably noticed that.

I know that 'Airplane' is a she. Is it true that one's grammar is a 'she' in that rule? Or are you winding me up?

If I got a penny for everytime 'Breaking Away' left a sarcastic reply, I would now have 19 pence.

I think that's probably the same for most people. I find understanding others, and reading, to be much easier than speaking.shirley pollard wrote:i find it weird that i can understand when people speak welsh but not speak it myself.i remember my old boss making me speak welsh to him and i would be too scared to say anything in case i got it wrong.maybe thats why im so shy now...
I think there are several reasons, sometimes it might be that I've simply forgotten the word, but I recognise it when I hear it or see it written down; often I can make out enough words to get the gist of what is being said, even though I don't know all the words, whereas, to speak in a coherent sentence, I would need to know all the words. In the case of Italian, often the words are close enough to Spanish for me to be able to translate them into Spanish first then into English, but when I have to reply, I'll normally end up speaking Spanish

I need some slippers, and some soap
