Social Media Vs The Forum

Post by Auf Wiedersehen, Pet » Sun Dec 11, 2016 5:40 pm

I love the forum to bits, it's been a massive ride and I've loved every minute! As social media seems to have taken over as a forum, I've been posting Trivia and Bloopers in there. The flack we've had is pretty ridiculous to say the least, I think many don't understand I'm not 'pulling anything to bits' just pointing out a few bits of trivia.

Thanks to you lot in the forum you seem to enjoy it and enjoy the ride. Thank you for that.

When you're the only sane person, you look like the only insane person.

Is it so bad to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.

Take comfort in this and ignore those naughty big boys on social media.

Sorry, I missed Moxey out of the list of greats, he was misunderstood or at least no one could fathom him out.

The Forum is Champions League. Social Media is just a bit of fun for allcomers. Works for me anyway. Better get a donut.

Facebook is something I've never been on it and never will, but the amount of arguments and such like that I've witnessed through people at work and neighbours which all originate from FB is staggering. Seems it's full of the self-obsessed and the nosey
Shut ya yak will ya man, you snivelling little git.

That's probably the main reason I removed my Auf Wiedersehen Pet Location videos off Youtube. The last few years, Facebookers have been writing less statuses about their day and moved on to sharing more Youtube videos and so I lose control of removing the insulting comments once some gadgy decides to share my video on his Facebook. I had control of removing the comment: "He looks like Peter Beardsley's little brother" but it got me thinking what insults I might not be able to remove elsewhere. Pathetic of me really.

I checked Oz's Facebook and realised he was holidaying in America...he posted a pic of him and Merle Haggart too, or at least I think it was him. Hard to tell sometimes with those phone pics...

If only.

Facebook et al have proven that the user is the product, for advertisers, time and time again. Here's a scholar on the toxicity of social media: https://youtu.be/dmXcjvL9VSc. It is important to have forums like this as a grass roots space to enthuse over things we love. If you read the terms and conditions of social media, you discover that it is not there to protect the user. Here's a doc on the topic: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terms_and ... _May_Apply. If people want to use social media, it's fine, but there needs to be options for the rest of us. By the way, I like the branding on the Auf Pet site over social media. Also, I have access to information on the show through threads I would not discover otherwise on any of the SM platforms, plus the cool signatures and avatars. This is more like a sacred space for those who love the show. What would really be cool is if Auf Pet could do a Twitch thing and live stream episodes as people commented on the side. That would be a riot. Just for special occassions, like.

Hey, work is sacred. This is a story about working lads and the dignity of labour. Hallowed grounds indeed.

Well, I work at 'McDonalds'. Clean the bogs, mop the floors, empty the bins, wash the dishes etc etc. Now while it pays the bills and helps keep me alive, I agree with the dignity part. But 'sacred' ? eeerr no ! :P
