Auf Wiedersehen Pet at 40 - Tyneside Cinema Premiere Screening Saturday 2nd November 2024

On Saturday 2nd November 2024 fans travelled from across the UK to join us to watch a special Premiere Screening of ‘Auf Wiedersehen Pet at 40’ on the big screen to a sell-out ‘Tyneside Cinema‘ in the heart of Newcastle City Centre. Anticipation and excitement built as fans gathered for a drink’s reception and catch up ahead of the official DVD release. Comedian and actor Cal Halbert hosted our event, first introducing a number of guests in attendance including Lesley Saint-John (series 2 – Vicki) and Mike Perry (series 1 & 2 Production Designer) plus a host of band members featured in the live show. Part 1 of the show ‘This Is Your Life, Pet’ screened for the very first time offering fans an opportunity to watch a wonderful reunion of Auf Wiedersehen Pet cast, crew and writers sharing their memories and stories of their time on and off set. Following part 1, ‘Auf Wiedersehen Pet at 40’ co-producers Ray Laidlaw (Lindisfarne) and Andy Patrick (Official Auf Wiedersehen Pet Fansite) took to the stage for a special Q&A. Whilst Tim Healy was unable to attend in person, he sent heartfelt apologies wishing fans the very best and a wonderful evening before a surprise guest was announced. From the back of the room, Jimmy Nail burst into the cinema to rapturous applause, raising the roof before joining Andy and Ray on stage as co-producer of the show. Ray, Andy and Jimmy offered a fascinating insight into the year-long production of the event; the largest live celebration of the show since its inception in 1983. Challenges, highlights and memories of the show’s production were discussed along with backstage chat and camaraderie when cast, crew and writers caught up and reminisced behind the scenes. Following the Q&A, screening part 2 ‘The Concert’ commenced when fans relived Jimmy Nail’s stunning live performance accompanied by Tim Healy and Kevin Whately plus many special guests. The 70-minute set features songs connected to Auf Wiedersehen Pet, theme songs and a tribute to Oz’s idol, US Country music legend Merle Haggard. Those who weren’t lucky enough to purchase tickets to the two sell-out live shows at the O2 City Hall Newcastle in May told us they thought the show was phenomenal.
