Series 1 Trivia And Filming Errors

Series 1 for many of the fans is the greatest of all 5, but its not without its errors. For instance, did you know in ‘The Accused’ episode, there are 2 Barry’s in the hut at the same time? Did you also know in the final episode, ‘When The Boat Goes Out’ when the hut catches fire, during rehearsals, it all went a bit wrong, and Gary Holton’s jeans caught fire? These are just some of the filming errors and bits of trivia fans love to read about, and thanks to the Forum, we just keep finding more and more. Auf Wiedersehen, Pet 1983 - 2016
Series 1 Trivia. The first shots of Dennis, Neville and Oz traveling to Germany, was actually how Jimmy, Tim and Kevin got there to film the outdoor scenes. In ‘If I Were A Carpenter’, Neville is very seasick, but in Series 2 on Kenny Ames boat, he’s fine. Also in The Special in the very last scenes on the ferry back to Germany, he is also not seasick. In ‘If I Were A Carpenter’ Neville cuts his right hand when the saw slips. Neville is right handed, so how did he cut his right hand with the saw?Although the first series was set in Düsseldorf, the outside shots were in fact filmed in Hamburg, as you can see from the number plates of the German Cars. The outdoor set which was used for most of the building shots, was filmed on a set in Elstree, which is where Walford, or EastEnders now stands. During the “If I were a Carpenter” episode, and Dennis and Neville have to “Push a clapped out Zephyr round the Bavarian Alps”, this would have been no help, as the car used was an automatic. This has been argued, and apparently it would be possible to jump start it if you left the car in neutral, and then popped it into drive. Not good for the gearbox, but works apparently. Jenny Éclair had her first TV appearance on Auf Wiedersehen Pet in the “Private  Lives” episode. She plays the room maid who brings the drinks to Dennis’ room when Wayne and Barry are hiding from the Hotel manager. In, “When The Boat Goes Out” and the hut explodes, a lot went wrong during a rehearsal with Wayne (Gary Holton) being trapped inside. Gary and 2 other crew members had to escape, resulting in Gary’s jeans catching fire. In this same episode during the final scenes, how did the lads find out where Dagmar lived? Series 1 Filming Errors. If I Were A Carpenter When Dennis gets out of the car at the customs, he doesn’t have a cigarette in his mouth, but when he steps out of the car, its in his mouth. This is just prior to showing the customs officers what a spirit level is. In the scene where Neville is writing a postcard to Brenda whilst in Oz’s car, Oz goes from having a jacket on to no jacket in the same scene. When Oz’s car breaks down, and him and Dennis are talking about what to do, Dennis has a red shirt on. In the next scene when they step off the train, Dennis has a blue shirt on. In the same scene, when Neville is trying to get Oz’s car working he has a light blue shirt on, but when he arrives at the Beco building site, his is now dark blue. When the lads arrive at the hut and are choosing beds, Oz takes his tool bag off his shoulder and places it on the floor, but in the next scene its back on his shoulder. When Dennis and Oz are sat down on their lunch break, and Oz mentions ‘Red Cross Parcels’ he throws a brick at Wayne to get his attention. In this scene, Wayne has no cigarette in his hand, then he does, and then he doesn’t again. In the same scene as above, when Dennis and Oz are sat down for lunch, Dennis has a black jumper on with no zip up collar, but when he enters the hut to find out about Neville’s hand, he has a jumper with a zip up collar. In the shot where the lads have gone out for the night, Neville is staring out of the window, and is seen wearing his Brown Jacket, but when the scene enters the hut almost immediately, he is seen only wearing his Red Polo Shirt. You can also see in this scene that Neville has his Tattoo peeping out from his Polo Shirt, but it’s not till the end of the episode that he actually comes back to the hut with it adorned on his arm. The Girls They Left Behind When Dennis and Oz are in the bar, and Dennis is talking to the 2 lads about work, and 'The Drawbacks', Andy played by Brendan Healy walks behind Dennis singing, ...'We beat the Merseyside...' and then in the next scene, he's sat back down with Oz behind Dennis! Suspicion When Neville is heading out to the Pawn shop from the building site, he is wearing his Work Boots. When he gets of the tram/train in Düsseldorf, he has his white trainers on, but when he walks into the shop, he has his work boots back on. Home Thought From Abroad They queue up for their wages on the Friday and then go for a curry. The next morning Oz is "a man who had a curry last neet". But then when the episode moves to the bar it's suddenly Sunday! Den laments the demise of Pick of the Pops and Barry brings in the Sunday papers. Thanks to ‘Musta bin Elbowed’ on the Forum The Accused Bomber and Moxey are in the pub and Bomber drinks from his glass, takes it down by 2/3rds. The German's come in and he asks them to have a drinks with them. The level of his glass changes. He goes back to Moxey and says "relations are strained", the level in his glass has changed again! Thanks to Tracy Holmes from New Zealand Private Lives When Dennis is taking a Taxi to meet Dagmar, it is the same Registration Plate as the one the Swedish Air hostesses are in. The Fugitive When Colin (Ray Winstone) is telling the lads in the hut about why he went AWOL, he lights up a cigarette. He places the lighter on the table, but a  few minutes later, the lighter is on top of the Cigarette packet, but then a few seconds later it’s back on the table. Thanks to ‘KismetsNotAName’ on the Forum. The Alien Oz and Barry are playing darts. Oz tells us “Alls you require Double 16” but after Barry throws, Oz then tells us he needs, “Double 8  wanted” Last Rites  When we see the hospital bed with Hedley in, notice that there is a British 13A socket on the bed panel. (Ruggedscot - Forum) When The Boat Goes Out When Neville is showing Wayne his Tattoo so that Wayne can copy the design for his ‘Plank’ it says ‘Neyille and Lotte’ not ‘Neville and Lotte’. When Barry brings his bike into the hut. Watch the back of the bike, you can see someone giving him a hand getting  the bike in
